How to get free iPhone Ringtones and install them

Whenever anyone gets a new phone they have to go through the countless customisable options like changing sound settings.  The ringtone is one of the most important ones and when with friends they can either make you feel cool or a bit of an idiot if you forgot to change it from the default sad ringtone.  It can be awkward so just change it to something people will recognise and get yourself a proper ringtone -- it’s a really simple process.  For the iPhone there is an extra step to transfer ringtones because instead of sending them to the phone you just save them in iTunes and then next time they sync it’s done.Picture 1.png

1. Go to www.audiko.net

Picture 2.png2. Search for the track that you want and see if the site has it. If it doesn’t you can either go back to the homepage and upload the song yourself to clip the sample for a ringtone or you’ll have to download another track.

3. Once you have the clip you want, simply scroll down and see “Download for iPhone” Right click on the link and save it where you can easily find it.

Picture 4.png4. Open up iTunes and add the downloaded file to your library, when completed it will appear in a separate category on the left -- Ringtones.  If it doesn’t: then either the file was corrupt so try downloading another one, or it didn’t import so quickly try this again.

5. When your iPhone is connected to iTunes make sure on the Ringtones tab it is selected to “sync all” and then the ringtones will be sent across to the phone.

6. Right so now you have them on your phone all you need to do is set them up! Go to Settings on the home screen, Sounds,Ringtones and scroll down and select your custom ringtone. Done!

That’s it! No longer will you be embarrassed to receive a call within a crowd! There are literally thousands of tunes to choose from but be wary of short poor quality versions of the tune. I believe audiko.net is a great free site, built well so we can simply get what we want with no hassle, lets hope they keep it up.

Using the Canon FS100 in photo mode?

Like many electronic gadgets today the manufactures are trying to cram as many items into them as possible and that’s why we have FM radios and cameras on mobile phones when all their real purpose is is to make contact with the outside world.  However these unnecessary items can help clinch sales as people then don’t have to carry them all round separately and I’m all for that.  A couple of years ago I used to have an ipod, phone, wallet and other stuff in my pockets so when I bought an o2 XDA it made sense. And I was grateful as it meant I only had to look after one gadget from fear of losing it so it makes sense.  On the other hand some added items are not worthy and that leads me to camcorders having the ability to take photos.

Now in theory you would think “oh that’s easy and they should take great photos with those expensive lenses” and I would agree.  Why can’t they make the photo modes any good? The one on my old Sony was dire and couldn’t beat my 3.0 megapixel camera on my Samsung D900i. I was disappointed and never took photos with it again.  Now step over to my new Canon FS100, once again I was sceptical but thought I’d test it and show you the results.

In my opinion they’re not too bad, better than the Sony and nearly if not on par with my camera phone. If consumers are after just a quick look and snap camera feature this will do them fine and with the good zoom focus on the camcorder it makes the zoomed in photos nice as well.  It even has a nice continuous shoot setting so you can capture fast moving objects in multiple frames.  Canon have done a god job but as a message to all camcorder makers if you’re going to add a camera feature make it worthwhile. We’re not at that step just yet when separate digital cameras can be phased out.

As a result I’ll definately be using it if I don’t have my other cameras on me but I wouldn’t rely on it for a long trip.  If you’re looking for something a bit meatier or with better options (there is no manual control of ISOs or anything) then its probably better not to sell off that dusty digital camera you have lying around.

A new Xbox 360 faceplate but how do you put it on?

Photo-0009#1.jpgSo as I wondered around the car boot this morning I eyed myself a little prize.  I’ve never been overly enthusiastic about them but thought why not lets try one.  No it wasn’t a rare limited edition of a Dreamcast, although if I found one I’d love to try it again, but some Xbox 360 faceplates.

This was Microsoft’s idea of customisation to the next generation of its gaming console but at around £8 a pop for a faceplate for £15 for the official ones I’ll leave the way my 360 was designed thank you very much.  Back to the story I saw a nice silver one but to my surprise the price didn’t match my expectations and so I walked off with it and a Quake 4 bonus disc (containing playable Quake 2) all for 50p. I was chuffed and couldn’t wait until I got it home.

Then I hit a problem. I’d never changed my faceplate before and I didn’t want to wretch off my old one and break it so I fiddled around and it was easier than I thought.

1. Feel at the bottom of the faceplate, or the right side if you have your 360 horizontally, and you’ll find a small clip. Simply pull and it will detach. Then pull gently along the rest of the faceplate and some more clips will come loose finally releasing your old cover.

2. Then just simply place your new faceplate where the old one used to be and push it on and you’ll hear the clips go back into place.

And that was it, simple enough I had changed the look of my 360 and it matched the rest of my silver office colour scheme…and at 40p it didn’t break the bank. I thank Microsoft for actually making something simple and easy to do, lets hope they can continue that in the future instead of overcomplicating things like they normally do.  Don’t forget there are bargains if you look hard enough and now I’m off to play The Force Unleashed demo on my nice new “Silver” Xbox 360.
